This is not an ancient greek temple. To help with your bewilderment let's try a short time travel: this monument and hall of fame was built in 1842 by Ludwig I (then King of Bavaria; idea & owner) and Leo von Klenze (architect & inventor of the street with the same name in Munich) at a time when bridges over the Danube river were rare. In fact there was the Steinerne Brücke in Regensburg (upstream, to the west) and then nothing... the next bridge downstream at that time was the Széchenyi Chain Bridge in Budapest which wasn't finished before 1849.
