Freiburg is one of the few cities in our state that is actually growing. One of the newer districts is called the „Rieselfeld“. In several phases it was built from 1996 to 2012. On July the 25th 2004 the new church of the Rieselfeld was inaugurated. But Maria-Magdalena-Church is not just one church. There are a roman-catholic church plus a protestant church in this one building. There are offices, a church shop, meeting rooms and a hall for larger events in there as well. Besides, the church posesses an exceptional acoustic. Maria-Magdalena-Church is a very dominant concrete building. It used to be a very controversial building too – some people actually called it St. Maginot (after a French line of concrete fortifications, called the Maginot-Line, in WW II). But after all – in the South-West of Germany we are a very moderate people. And we are getting used to it – some of us even start to like certain aspects of this building…
