In order to attend the annual Winterlude festival for our first time, we traveled from our home in upstate New York to Ottawa, Canada, about four hours north. We spent the weekend with friends ice skating, ice sliding, viewing ice sculptures, and eating good food.

Although the mild winter this year prevented skating on the canals while we visited, the other activities kept us busy and provided a good mid-winter break from the routine.

This particular image depicts an ice-walled pavilion where metro staff were generously distributing free cookies, hot cocoa, marshmallows, and other treats. They made a very tasty snack for enjoying while taking in nearby live musical shows, ice carving demonstrations, and wandering performers.
