This view shows the point at which the Shrewsbury River enters Sandy Hook Bay. The extreme weather we have had this year causing this tidal estuary and the bay to freeze over. That last happened to this extent about ten years ago.

The Highlands-Sea Bright Bridge connects Highlands, New Jersey in the west to Sea Bright, New Jersey in the east, across the Shrewsbury River. The eastern terminus is at the entrance to Sandy Hook.

In October 2012, the new bridge became a life saver for the remaining residents of Sea Bright as the historic storm surge pushed ashore during Superstorm Sandy. After the storm passed, an estimated 90% of the town was said to be wiped out and uninhabitable
