We were hiking the Walnut Canyon National Monument Island Trail through the Native American cliff dwellings when we got to a spot where trail repair was being done. Amazingly (or fortuitously) off to the side of the cliff-dwelling ruins sat an industrial scale. No clue why or wherefore, especially considering it had to have been lugged down into the canyon by hand, but not being one to look a gift-horse in the mouth, I quickly shot a number of panos on the spot (fortunately I had my pano rig with me!)
Walnut Canyon National Monument is located just East of Flagstaff, Arizona. The cliff dwellings were occupied from 1100 to 1250 AD by the Sinagua People and were abandoned due to climate change in the SW United States.
