Caption
Hitch Wood is not large and there is little danger of getting lost if one sticks to the paths with their "approved route" signs to point the way. The morning started with fog, but this had largely cleared at ground level by the time I arrived. Mist patches were still hovering overhead, though, being gradually burnt off by the Sun. It was generally very quiet, with just the very occasional cry from a pheasant and hammering from a woodpecker. It's all rather bare, but that will change in a week or two when the tree foliage appears and bluebells bloom. The reddish brown object close to the camera is the base of an uprooted tree, the trunk having been sawn off.
