When I first heard that "diversity" is the theme for this event I had something in mind which had to do with
biodiversity. It was then, when I remembered some posters with an advertisement of
BioFrankfurt the biodiversity network within the Rhine-Main region.
While checking out the
members of the network, I found the site of
Main Äppelhaus (German website only). It's an
"eingetragener Verein" and one of its goals is to protect
"Streuobstwiesen" (esp. orchards with apple trees) as part of the cultural identity of the region. One of the efforts of the "Verein" results in the operation of their own "Streuobstwiese" which mainly hosts apple trees. The garden hosts not only one species of apples but a great diversity of apple trees.
So I decided to shoot in their own "Streuobstwiese" in the middle of an apple tree. Luckily I was able to use one of the few sunny days for the shooting.
Making Of
The shooting was done with a
3.15 meter (appx. 10.33 ft) pole to reach a viewpoint in the middle of the apple tree. The pole was extended to its full length. The lens was mounted with a custom made bracket, which allows to mount the lens to turn around the no-parallax point of the lens.
As the lens is a fisheye lens, four pictures easily cover 360°. To be sure I took three exposures at each direction. The exposures were two stops apart. The best exposed set was chosen before stitching.
Nadir and zenith were retouched manually.
