This important building in architecture's history was designed by the French-Swiss architect Charles-Édouard Jeanneret, better known as Le Corbusier, one of modern architecture's pioneers. The Pilgrimage Chapel was completed in 1954 on the top of a hill near Belfort, in the eastern part of France.
Although Le Corbusier was an atheist, the building is considered one of the most important examples of religious architecture of the last century.
Each year the site welcomes more than 80,000 visitors who come from across the whole world.
