The Megyeri Bridge, previously known as the Northern M0 Danube Bridge, is a new cable-stayed bridge currently under construction that will span the River Danube between Buda and Pest, respectively the west and east sides of Budapest, the capital of Hungary. It will be a very important section of the M0 ringroad around Budapest. It will be also the northest bridge in the Hungarian section of Danube, still far away, fifty kilometers at least from the Hungarian - Slovak border.
The bridge will be 1.85km long and will cost 61.9 billion forints (approx. US$370M). It is scheduled to open in August 2008. It has received much media attention due to the naming poll started to name the bridge.
The bridge intersects both branches of the Danube, once at the city border on the M0 ring-road circumventing Budapest, and once at the northern sector of the M3 motorway where it meets the #11 principal road.
The new bridge spans over the Main Danube-branch (Vác Danube), southern part of the Szentendre island, the Szentendre Danube-branch and inundation areas.
Bridge over the Main Danube Branch: Insofar never used for public road bridges in Hungary, an angular cable-stayed design bridge will be built over the main branch of the Danube. Bridge openings are 145+300+145m, total lenght 590m. The structure is fully welded, necessary of steel material is 8000 tons. The two "A" shaped pilons are 100 m high.
