I really hesitated about posting this panorama. But finally I decided I will upload it.
This picture shows one of the four gates that used to be part of a wall protecting Kuwait City, Sour al Kuwait. Sour al Kuwait was built around 1760 when the founding fathers of Kuwait first settled in this land. The wall marked the true beginning and independent Kuwait from other tribes or states. The wall was rebuilt twice until it was finally torn down in 1957 leaving only the four gates. The gate shown in this panorama was built around 1920s, and rebuilt in 1991 after the Iraqi invaders destroyed it. Now there is a street where the wall used to stand.
I was really excited when I decided to go out and shoot those gates that belonged to Sour al Kuwait. That wall protected Kuwait for centuries and just like any old city, there are many stories about wars, standoffs, and drama that took place near its walls.
I'm shocked with what I saw over there. The place looked like a dumpster. The fence was broken, so were the locks on most of the doors and windows. There wasn't even a single sign or plate mentioning the gate's name or history. What a shame.
