Rampart in Murten as a Border in a medieval times.

King Konrad gave the order to build the rampart in 1238. The Rampart was used to control who enters and who does not.

The Rampart also protected the city 1476 against Charles, Duke of Burgundy who lost his second battle against the Swiss Confederation. Many Burgundians died that day along the lakeside in the rout.

This small medieval town lies in the Swiss "Midlands" on the edge of the Great Marsh, on a gentle hill (450 metres above sea level) and on the shore of Lake Morat (named after the town).
