As in ancient Mexico, we still have the marketplace day where small farmers and some actual indigene sell on the floor or over folding stands their own production. All of them are from around town and join in a specific street and for all day long, that street is the marketplace, depending on the day is the street, Sunday in the north of the city, Tuesday near downtown, etcetera; that way, small producers are available to all population.
This is the typical market in my town; we call it "mercado sobre ruedas" which means moving market, do not translate it literally please and is known to be cheaper than other markets and with better quality by freshness.
We may found in them traditional herbal medicine, some grains as rice, beans, corn, tortillas, spices, women making food, fresh fruit like oranges, apples, papaya, pineapple and vegetables like onions, chayote, carrots, tomatoes, natural chiles jalapeños, and some comestible flowers like the "flor de calabaza", "gasparitos" and "xaxanas"; several kinds of mushrooms and nopales also, some times we may found small farm animals like little pigs, chickens, guajolotes -turkey- and even fresh meat and day fish over blocks of ice.
This is one of those markets where you may see all the above and beggars and musicians are part of the environment. In my web site you could see the others markets from my town.
