There are a number of wholesale marketplaces in San Francisco, California's SOMA neighborhood one of which is the San Francisco Flower Mart on the corner of Sixth and Brannen Streets.

The origins of the San Francisco Flower Mart go back to the late 1800's when local growers sold their flowers three days a week at Lotta's fountain in downtown San Francisco. A market located at 5th and Howard Streets was opened in 1924 and moved to the current specially designed and constructed facility at Sixth and Brannan Streets in 1956.

Known then as the San Francisco Flower Market Terminal and now officially the San Francisco Flower Mart, it has expanded from a "growers" market to a marketplace for floral wholesalers that includes over 60 vendors of cut flowers, potted plants, blooming plants and floral supplies.

One of those vendors, Brannan Street Wholesale Florist, Inc. where this panorama was shot, shares a 40-year tradition as part of the historic San Francisco Flower Market Terminal. They offer approximately 400 types of fresh flowers and greens from local and international growers.

The San Francisco Flower Mart is open for wholesale badge holders only from 2:00 am to 10:00 am Monday, Wednesday and Fridays and 5:00 am to 10:00 am Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. It is open to the public from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
