Donington Market

Donington Market is a large Sunday market held outside Donington Park Racing Circuit. Donington Park is one of the top racing circuits in the UK, and hosts the British Formula 3 and GT Championships, and the British Motorcycle Grand Prix, amongst others, and has in the past hosted the Formula 1 British Grand Prix.

It is also directly under the flight path of aircraft landing at Nottingham East Midlands airport, and so I have added sounds of both the race track and low flying aircraft to the fullscreen panorama. When you hear the aircraft, look up and you may see it, if you are quick. For the full effect of being there place a petrol soaked rag in your lap whilst viewing.

The panorama is stitched from 3 rows of twelve images plus one top shot straight up. With so many people coming and going this creates serious editing problems. Stitcher's "stencil" tool is invaluable in this situation, allowing me to select the people I wish to include or exclude. But with so many different permutations of people, editing is still a lengthy and difficult process. I took 2 or 3 shots in some instances to give myself even more choice with regards to the positions of people in the scene. The aircraft overhead was an afterthought as I was leaving. I set up my camera and took several shots of aircraft as they regularly flew over. An activity which attracted the attention of the security personnel.

This was the only panorama I got on this occasion. This market is very crowded, more so than it appears here, and it is difficult to find a suitable spot to set up a tripod in the narrow paths between the stalls. A second panorama had to be abandoned half way through when someone objected to being photographed.
