You may be wondering why a panographer living south of France shows a panorama of Liège in Belgium? As a matter of fact, It was a painter who was invited to a medical congress as guest artist and author of the artworks used as visual support of travelled to this nice city to go with my wife, a pastel "10° Journées liégeoises de Gynécologie-obstétrique". Some days before the equinox, searching for "Place du marché Liège"
on the web, I was glad to find that there was a famous Market Place down town.
The fountain "Le Perron", considered as a symbol of Liberty, lies in
the middle of the place which is surrounded by stately 17th and 18th centuries façades, that of the Town Hall for instance. Until the seventies there
was a popular weekly market on this place, and nowadays the place is used for the Christmas market only. Currently the Liège market stands along the
Meuse river.
As my Canon 1DII and tripod were too heavy to to be carried, I shot the photos with my Canon D30, with a 8mm Sigma fish eye lens and a monopod fitted with the elbow bracket of my Manfrotto 303 head. I bracketed 6 raw shots around, plus one for the zenith.
The raw files were developed in Adobe Camera Raw to 16-bit tiff files to keep the luminous dynamic range of the scene which was not very high and did not really need braketing. The 7 tiff files were stitched in PTGui 4.1 using the Enblend plugin. The stitched output files were processed with the Eric Krause action to a single 16-bit equirectangular file.
This panoramic file was processed through the HDR tone mapping of Photomatix Pro 2.0.5. I was amazed at the ability of the Photomatix output jpeg file at restoring the dynamic range of the original scene with a nice full tonal mapping.
