Culture is something that has to be shared in society, giving people a sense of identity, and belonging. All the more amazing then that culture is shared amongst such diverse communities.

This is Muck, one of what are called the "Small Isles" off the west coast of Scotland. Approximately 30 people live on this island, their only contact with the mainland is a daily ferry. In this shot you can see all the houses on the island apart from a farm and cottages at the other end of the only road - 2Km west of here.

2 days before this shot was taken the new Community Hall was opened (large black roofed building) with a celidh, a Scottish party with dancing, revelry and merry-ment. The hall was full with residents and others drawn back to the island, some with family ties, and some from neighbouring islands.

This celebration could have happened anywhere in Scotland, but it happened here, showing the strength of shared culture even at the physical edge of our community.

Equipment

4 GoPro HERO2 cameras, with a prototype camera cradle/rig, triggered by 4 gentWIRE camera syncronisers. Suspended below a Dan Leigh Cruiser R8 kite, with 2m (7ft) wingspan.

This technique produces two hemispheres, and a different workflow in PTGui from the classic ground pano technique. This results in extra effort BUT impossible angles!
