What once was a quarry, mining Malvern stone, is now covered with a blanket of trees. They grow out of every nook and cranny, obscuring the bare rock faces that were left behind. This once busy and noisy place, now peaceful and calm is hidden behind a curtain of natures green.Once there were quite a few quarries on the Malvern Hills, mining its stone for construction. At first this wasn't a problem but by 1912 so much stone was being mined that the local roads just couldn't take the additional traffic. Because of this plans were started to get all the quarries closed, and so by 1977 the plans were complete.
Since the final quarry closed nature has been slowly taking things back. Some have filled up with water, some have been turned into picnic areas and some like the one pictured above have been left alone. They have all now become just another part of the History of the Malvern Hills.

Equipment
Taken with a Nikon D300 and a Nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8G fisheye lens. Mounted on a Nodal Ninja 5 panorama head and R-D16 rotator atop a Manfrotto 055XPROB tripod. Shots taken at 6 positions 60° apart, tilted 15° down and another shot taken looking straight up. Raw files then processed in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3.4.1 before being stitched together using PTGui Pro 9.1beta3 and converted using Pano2VR 3.1.0.
