Fern Forests, with tall and beautiful fern trees belonging to the genus Cyathea and Dicksonia, are part of New Caledonia's Cloud Forests. They thrive in the misty peaks of the mountains of Grande Terre which are almost always shrouded with clouds.

This is one of the many forest paths on Mount Koghi Parc Provincial de Thy. It is part of the Reserve Naturelle Integrale de la Montagne des Sources and is just a 15 minute drive from downtown Noumea. On weekends many Noumea residents go for treks through Mt. Koghi's cloud forests. It is almost always cool and refreshing and there are trails suitable for people of all ages and capabilities - including trails for the handicapped.
