The calm beauty of redwood groves is widely appreciated. Some are baroquely figured with fountaining ferns, others are smoothly carpeted with redwood sorrel. The towering trees afford an open feeling to the forest that is often likened to a cathedral.

The redwoods of coastal California are the tallest trees on earth, up to 368 feet (112 meters).
