The Sierra at the Cape of Santa Pola forms a beautiful sub-Mediterranean natural environment full of plant and animal life.
If you look for the spot, and just some yards away from the Mediterranean sea, you may find yourself in the middle of an evergreen pine tree forest.
Some other plants that are well adapted to the climate and soil conditions of this region are samphire, marsh-rosemary, wood carnation and wild thymes just to name a few.
As for the animals species, many insects and reptiles find shelter in this habitat. Bird life is also very diverse as well as small mammals such as hares, rabbits, hedgehogs and even foxes.
It is finally worth noting the large quantity of lichen that are to be found scattered all around this sierra and which serve as an indicator of the air quality of this ecosystem.
