Having seen the aurora borealis for the first time in September 2018, we decided to return to Norway in late autumn for my wife's birthday. This year was the time, with almost solar maximum, which gives best chances to see northern lights. We travelled by train to Bergen, then by Hurtigruten ship to Tromsø and by rental car to our holiday home two fjords further north-east.

There I was rather disappointed by the bright streetlights, which I feared would obscure the faint auroras. In the end, however, it turned out that a certain amount of contrast benefits the image.

We already experienced nice northern lights from the ship and the first night in our holiday home. But in the second night it was covering the whole sky. Time for a panorama, but no time to go to a more remote location. So I took it just a few meters behind the house.

Panoramas (no aurora) from our Norway trip 2018 on 360cities.
