The Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt (Christ Child Market) is one of the oldest and best known Christmas Markets worldwide. The oldest document mentioning the market dates from the year 1628.
The market begins at the evening of the Friday before the first Sunday in advent. It is opened by a young lady dressed in white and gold – the Nuremberg Christkind.
Her prologue starts:
„You men and women, who once yourselves were children,
You little ones, life’s journey just beginning,
Each and all, who troubled tomorrow, are full of cheer today,
Pray listen to what Christkind has come to say! ...“
The market originated from a weekly market in front of the church Frauenkirche – still the current location.
In the panorama, you can see a booth with the inscription in Franconian dialect:
“Willst an, der di net ärgere koh, kafst da halt an Zwetschgamoh.”
“If you are looking for someone, who will not anger you – just buy a Zwetschgamoh.”
A Zwetschgamoh is a very traditional gift from the Christkindlesmarkt: A little man or woman made from dried plums and walnuts. They used to be dressed in traditional costumes. Nowadays, you can buy them also dressed as medical doctor, judge, parson, ….
Why „Best of“?
Is this really my “best” panorama of the year 2022? Well, what does “best” mean anyway? For me, it is special, since I took a panorama at a time and a place where a panorama stitched from many images simply would not have been possible. So many people, constantly moving, the light conditions, … Using a Theta Z1 with the dual Fisheye RAW Plugin made this panorama possible. And yes, you can see ghost images, blurred people and the like. But that is the price for having a panorama at all.
