For this December'22 Best Of WWP event, I wanted a panorama that would encapsulate something of what we have been living during the year, rather than pure panoramic-photography quality. And this view of the empty ancient stadium in the Archaelogical Site of Olympia, Greece, could underline at least two things:
On the one side, the stadium itself is empty, a reminder of all the empty seats the pandemics has left in many countries: stadiums, theaters, museums...
On the other side, the wild fenomena climate change seems to be causing: fires scaping all possible control and high temperature records, floodings, tornados, hurricanes and typhons...
Greece was on the news worlwide last summer due to the extension of the fires in Euboea, Attica and the Peloponnese. The Archaelogical site of Olympia was finally spared, but there was serious fear at a certain moment that the flames could reach it.
Later on, in December, the tempest Ballos that ravaged Corfou, Euboia, Attica and many other spots in Greece, causing the river Alpheios to almost flood it from the south.
(The reason why there are not visitors in my pic is that just a quarter of an hour before I took it, although the sky is blue, a heavy rain had fallen, making them all disappear).
