This picture showing the neoclassical cloister of the Catedral de la Encarnación in Almería is one of my favourite 2017 shots. At entering it from the darkness of the Cathedral Museum the bright blinding light, the two pairs of different palm trees along with the high araucaria and the Moorish fountain compose together a self-contained small, unlikely and eerie universe. I could not understand why this little oasis was neglected by the Game of Thrones team at the time they were shooting at the nearby Alcazaba, only a short distance from here.This cathedral was constructed where once there was a Mosque. The current structures were conceived at the XVIth century after three serious earthquakes completely destroyed the previous temples, and built as a fortress-cathedral in order to protect it against pirate attacks, quite frequent at the time. The project was not completed until the XVIIIth century, when this cloister was erected.
