Lochranza Castle (13th century) sits on a promentary in Loch Ranza. Owned variously by the MacSweens, the Earl of Menteith, then Robert II. James IV used the castle in his campaign against the Lord of the Isles. Later it had a Cromwell connection.By 18C it was owned by the Duchess of Hamilton's estate before being sold to the Blackwood-Davidsons and falling into disuse. The castle is now in the care of Historic Scotland.
