Located off the southwest coast of Scotland, Lochranza is at the northern tip of the Isle of Arran. The island is known as "Scotland in Minature" because of the diverse range of landscape, castles, ruins etc which summerise all of Scotland in appearance and culture.Lochranza Castle (13th century) sits on a promentary in Loch Ranza. Owned variously by the MacSweens, the Earl of Menteith, then Robert II. James IV used the castle in his campaign against the Lord of the Isles. Later it had a Cromwell connection.By 18C it was owned by the Duchess of Hamilton's estate before being sold to the Blackwood-Davidsons and falling into disuse. The castle is now in the care of Historic Scotland.
