The central tower of the walk is built around a beech tree. The height of the tower is 40m, its outer diameter is 24m and the inner space where the tree grows has a diameter of 17m. You reach the platform on top of the tower via a path that is 600m long and thus not very steep. While gaining height you can inspect the central beech tree. Finally you reach the platform well above the tree. From there you can see Sassnitz, just behind the binoculars – the Jasmunder Bodden (a lagoon of the Baltic Sea) behind the “Attention” sign and the Baltic Sea under the rainbow.
When we climbed the tower, a rain front was quickly moving over us and we got caught in bad weather conditions on top of the tower (http://www.gigapixelpanorama.de/swf/baumwipfel_003.html - taken just before the weather got really bad). Soaking wet from the rain I finally shot this panorama after the rain had moved over the open sea.
