Cromford station was opened by the Manchester, Buxton, Matlock & Midlands Junction Railway in 1849. It was originally intended as a temporary site pending agreement on a more permanent location to the south, so only simple wooden buildings were initially erected.
The Upside Waiting Room, that you can see across the other side of the railway tracks is believed to be the original station building, was built in approximately 1860. This has been converted into a Holiday Cottage which you can rent!
