Behind the scene : how this panorama was made

I've been taking photos of this group of re-enactors for a few years, so they have become 'panorama aware' and understand what they have to do. This shot is one of a series I took at their Summer Camp.

To me, as a Pictorialist, composition is an essential element - there has to be a focal point and there must be enough detail round the rest of the panorama to sustain interest. Hence the choice of camera placement and posing.

I took three shots (insurance against blinking) but the first one worked perfectly with no need for subsequent masking.

The picture needed a 'painterly' approach. The atmosphere was built up from literally hundreds of adjustments with Connect NX2's Color Control Point tool. To achieve the haze, I 'painted' in Nik's Graduated Fog filter.
