This contribution is about your best VR panorama of 2010. My best of 2010 is not about the most technical, creative or photographic, but a panorama I made at a place I had the best feeling since ages. I had spent time in Mali for 10 days and had no proper shower during that time. I traveled a whole day, 15 hours from morning 8 a.m. to 1 a.m. the next day to find myself at the crossroads to Djenné. In the middle of the night I found out there was no transportation to my destination, Hotel Djenné Djenno in Djenné. The cause was that after sunset until sunrise the ferries to Djenné do not sail because of the danger of being stranded. So I had to wait until sunrise and spend the night upon a car bench on the floor. In this time of year temperatures drops to around 15 degrees Celsius (60 Fahrenheit) and that is cold when you are out in the open with a little wind and no cover or protection.
I did not want to fall asleep as I had my suitcases and equipment there in the open. So at 6:30 at sunrise I walked around and at 7:00 a.m. we started to drive the road to Djenné.
When I arrived at the hotel around 8 a.m., 24 hours after my departure, it felt like I arrived in an oasis. Plants, trees, flowers, birds and a quietness that was so relaxing. I got my key and entered my room. They said at the reception that there was warm running water in the shower but when I opened the valve,.. the water stayed cold. Oh not again I thought, I am screwed, but then all of a sudden the water got warmer and warmer and it was fantastic… It was the greatest shower I had for ages. The feeling I had at that place I want to share with you. An oasis, a kind of rebirth…
So for me, my best panorama of 2010 is not about the best picture I made but about the best feeling I had at the place where it was taken. For more pictures of Mali please look
