The quest for magic and inspiration led me to this very spot. I rushed over the edge of the dune in time to capture this breathtaking moment. The photo does no justice to what it is like to actually be there, so close to the edge of the earth.
There are a lot of things to see here; the sleeping bears in the distance, the lookout pier for stop #9 on Pierce Stocking scenic drive, and the jewels in the sand. The most amazing and grounding part of this photo is only visible in the thumbnail and equirectangular version; the eye.
I did not even notice the eye when taking the picture, like so many important things in our lives and experiences, it was too big to see.
As the sun set there were jewels in the sand, reminders of special times, the parting gift of closure.
