While the other three plinths of Trafalgar Square are occupied by statues, the fourth one was never filled due to shortage of funds, and has recently been filled by a series of changing exhibits.
One & Other was a live artwork by sculptor Antony Gormley, which took place over 100 days during the summer of 2009. 2,400 participants representing every region of the UK each spend an hour alone on the empty plinth in Trafalgar Square for 100 days and nights. It was broadcast live on Sky Arts and on the web, where it was viewed by 7 million people around the world.
I was lucky enough to win a place on the plinth, and decided to take a panorama while I was up there. I photographed, stitched, and uploaded the panorama to the web all within the allocated hour.
Unfortunately this slot on 25 Sept. fell just outside the timescale of the WWP "Performing Arts" event, which it would have been a perfect fit for! I sold limited edition prints of this panorama in aid of the Stroke Association.
Watch the video of the panorama being taken.
