Xin Tian Di, the historical part of Shanghai, has become a very attractive center thanks to the contrast between old Shikumen houses from the 18th Century's middle and contemporary architectural styles.

This part of Shanghai was close to the former French Concession (1849-1943) and the pictures were taken a very short distance from the historical site of First Congress Hall of the Communist Party of China, founded by Chairmain Mao in May of 1920. It is an irony of fate that this area was turned into a renowned tourists attraction district and a place for luxury restaurants and international pubs.

I took these pics standing at the corner of Ma Dang Lu and Xin Ye Lu while waiting for a taxi.
