The Voyage of the Balangay is an ongoing epic adventure undertaken by the Philippine's Mount Everest Team, the same people who successfully summit-ted the world highest mountain.
The aim of the voyage is to rekindle the Filipino pride and the maritime consciousness of a forgotten heritage.
The boat, christened "Diwata ng Lahi" (Goddess of the Race), was built in 44 days using the ancient method handed down by the Badjaos (an ethnic group in Southern Philippines). It measures 15 by 3 meters and about 1.3 meters depth, uses no nails, just wooden pegs and dowels.
After completing the Philippine voyage, the boat seeks to sail throughout Southeast Asia to as far as Madagascar in an attempt to retraced the journey of our ancestors.
