The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month is when the "war to end all wars" ended in 1918. Since then this had become in many places a day to remember these who fell in battle. On our island we honour the fallen and the veterans who survived with a ceremony in the park and a parade. At 11:00am we observe 2 minutes of silence.

War, any war, is the ultimate obscenity, and a powerful testament to human stupidity.

This day is important to me since I too had the misfortune to participate in wars; having lost many friends and relatives to this madness, it's time for me too to remember and grieve.
