Gitchigami

Gitchigami (an Ojibwe name for Lake Superior) is the greatest, and no doubt the most magnificent, of the Great Lakes. Nobody can resist its fantastic spirit and great power. Visiting the Lake once, you will come back again and again. Traveling along the lakeshore you will see different rugged landscapes; beaches, hills, rocks, and waterfalls. Trails lead you deep into the wilderness where you find yourself in the middle of absolutely untouched nature, quiet virgin forest and powerful streams, running down to the Great Lake. More than two hundred rivers and a few thousand streams bring their water to the Lake and the only one - St. Mary's River draining the water to Lake Huron - is an outlet.

The Lake is not very often as calm and quiet as you see in the panorama. Hundreds of ships and boats have found their end on the bottom of the Lake. The huge sleeping power can awake suddenly as a tremendous storm, with huge waves and disastrous wind. Respect this power as the Ojibwe people did and enjoy the nature of the Lake! This is definitely one of the most beautiful places on the globe...
