The local office for social services and job centre.
Enschede, The Netherlands
August 30, 2007; 11.58 local time
This former department store of “Vroom&Dreesmann” in Enschede is really unique in several ways. It’s a design by J. Kuijt from the twenties, and through the years it had many functions. After the latest renovation, two years ago, it has become a local employment office and social services. The historical and architectural inheritance of this building is considered carefully. This office has a very open character. The ground floor is public, and at the first floor and second floor the civil servants have their offices. You can have your privacy but at the other hand there will always be contact between visitors and the civil servants. This makes the working atmosphere very special.
