"... match me such a marvel, save in Eastern clime
A rose-red city, half as old as time."
- "Petra", Dean BurgenThe Siq is a long and very narrow desert canyon leading to the ancient City of Petra in the Hasemite Kingdom of Jordan; Along the path is an ancient aquaduct and some Nabatean Tombs
The City of Petra was not built, but carved into the red sandstone rocks. It was established around the 6th century CE by the Nabatean Arabs and conquered by the Romans in the first century.
The city was "lost" sometime in the 12th century and it was discovered by the Swiss explorer Burckhardt in the 19th century.
