Uath Lochan is the start of one of many excellent paths and trails created and managed by the Forestry Commission. I first visited here nearly 20 years ago, and this was my first trip back to recapture the views over the Spey valley and to the sheer hills across the river Feshie that mark the western edge of the Cairngorms.
The opening view is to the north towards Loch Insh, with its watersports centre and a restaurant that's provided many a holiday dinner over the years. The grey clouds round to the east were as threatening as they looked - it started to snow just as we got back to the car, and within minutes the roads were white and slippery.
