The striking size of the Abbey is mainly attributed to sheep farming across the massive estate. The monastery’s fortunes were halted in 1539 when Henry VIII
In 1987 the Abbey was added to the list UNESCO World Heritage Centres.
The Abbey sits in the grounds of Studley Royal Park which is also renowned for the water gardens, church and dear park. The park is owned and run by The National Trust and attracts over 300,000 visitors a year.
