Denmark has around 600 churches with medieval wall paintings.

Elmelunde kirke on Møn is one of the most well known. The wall paintings are from the beginning of the 16th century and was created by the artist "Elmelunde Mesteren" the Master of Elmelund.

The church is originally from 1085 but most of it was built later and the tower was not completed until the beginning of the 16th century.

Like many of the Danish wall paintings they were white-washed during the reformation in the 1530´s and they was not found again until 1880. Many of these amazing frescoes may still be hidden under white-wash in Danish Churches.
