This is one of my favourite places in Freiburg. It is located within the old center of town. Only very few tourists find their way to the Adelhauser Church. The place is shaded by huge chestnut trees that have changed to autumnal colours. Usually this little place is very shady. But on this late afternoon in October the sun is standing quite low and is lighting the place under the trees.

During the 30 years war in 1644 the old convent of the Dominican nuns in the little village of Adelhausen just outside the gates of Freiburg was blown up to make space for new fortifications of Freiburg. So a new convent was built within the city walls. For a few centuries Freiburg belonged to Habsburg. Under the reign of Joseph II. contemplative convents were closed down. The Adelhauser convent was closed down in the 1780s. After that a school resided in the building until 1983. After that a museum for natural history was installed in the building. Alone the church reminds of the former use of the complex.
