Our elderly neighbor Frank came home in the late evening on August 21st and decided to fry up something to eat. He then sat down at his kitchen table and fell asleep. He awoke when the flames grew large enough that his kitchen window shattered from the heat. Luckily for Frank his neighbor Tom also heard the breaking glass, saw the fire, and knew what to do. Tom, a Police Officer in nearby Holmdel, called 911 and then went next door to check on Frank. Finding the kitchen screen door locked, he broke in and found a disoriented Frank trying to put out the fire in the smoke filled kitchen. Tom grabbed Frank by the belt buckle and dragged the uncooperative Frank out of the house safely.
This is the aftermath as recorded from my front yard. Concerned and curious neighbors gather on the sidewalk while the volunteer firemen and Police hurry about. Frank is attended to by a group of paramedics. Luckily the fire did not spread much beyond the kitchen, but the smoke did do extensive damage to the house and Frank still has not been able to live there since the fire as of this writing.
