Collegio Papio

I found the subject "best of 2005" more difficult than expected. "Best" is such a subjective notion, and even then it is relative to the evaluation criteria, for a technical evaluation will yield different ranking than an artistic, commercial or emotional one.

There were so many panoramas to choose from. In 2005 panorama photography has taken more and more of my time and developed into a feverish passion as I improved my techniques.

I could showcase an artistic/commercial panorama such as those shot for Bellform Kunstgiesserei, an art foundry.

Or an emotional panorama such as the one shot for Mickael Therer's Panoramas of World War II Landmarks along the Gotthard railroad.

In the end I decided for a very personal interpretation.

It is now one year since I started contributing regularly to the World Wide Panorama project. The project leaders have motivated me all along with interesting topics. The photographers have inspired me and helped me master the challenges with their expert help and patient feedback. I am thankful to be part of such a varied and interesting community! To me it is like going to school again.

The panorama above is the inner court (chiostro) of Collegio Papio, a boarding school I attended for eight years. In retaining the panorama I weighed more the emotional aspect over the other aspects. It was non-commercial. From a technical perspective it's ok and the artistic interpretation is ok too. Could have been better with a perspective from the exact center of the court, but I did not want to upset the school's director nor get my feet wet.

Even if it is now almost twenty years since I left school and the banana tree has grown much larger, this place still recalls strong, positive feelings to me, for I learned a lot of useful and interesting skills there, as I do now as part of the World Wide Panorama community.
