Jefferson County Administration Building

Pressure is a great motivator. Not having a "best" pano beyond what was produced for the earlier World Wide Panorama events this year, I was determined to capture something impressive. I also believe that someone's best work is their latest. So here it is in all its last-minute, censored glory, Jefferson County's own Taj-Mahal.

This is a county government building that serves administrative(automobile tags, lands deeds, marriage licenses, etc.) needs on one side and judicial(criminal and civil district courts) needs of Colorado's Jefferson County on the other.

The magnificent six-level Jefferson County Administration and Courts Facility, located at the intersection of 6th Avenue and Jefferson County Parkway in Golden, can be seen for miles from nearly all directions. Situated at the heart of the government campus is the 531,000 square foot building. Key to its intrigue is the 125-foot glass-enclosed dome atrium stylized both after ancient Greek architecture and the rotunda designed by Thomas Jefferson for the University of Virginia. Large brass colored spheres decorate the exterior near the top of the building. The building's wheat and adobe coloring blends nicely with rock, buffalo grass and iron-rich red earth indigenous to the area. The dome is centered between two five-story wings, housing both the county's administrative offices on one side and courts on the other. Spectacular views of the Rocky Mountain foothills are provided on each of the facility's five floors.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's logo conceals the entrance to the judicial side of the building. At the request of the Sheriff's office, I have blocked this area to maintain the integrity of this sensitive area's security.
