This panorama was part of a series showing the inner workings of a bowling alley. While it may not be the most scenic or technically perfect shot ever produced, it is a novel example of how QTVR can take viewers to places they have seen from a distance, but could not normally experience this close up.
It presented a technical challenge to shoot - the pins, and the end of the lane are much smaller up close than they appear when you are bowling (a deliberate trick of perspective). The space for the camera, tripod and me was only a couple of feet high, which meant the picture was taken while I crawled around the setup on my belly!
To make a tough job even tougher, the bowling alley was still open for business - every so often the pins would shatter in the very next lane to me (you can see the guard which clears the pins is in the down position in the final panorama) - making me very paranoid about my gear, or even worse, myself, being knocked over by a stray 16lbs of bowling ball!
The bowling ball in the panorama was added later, as a (hopefully relevant) alternative to a standard tripod 'cap', and adds some motion to the whole scene.
