This particular interior panorama depicts the Combat Information Center (CIC) where both friendly and enemy ships, planes, submarines, and other units were tracked on plotting boards, tables, radar, and other instruments.
When in operation, a number of officers and crew served in the CIC around the clock, plotting locations of units on the large boards, monitoring radar displays, and keeping lists of the status of the ship's aircraft as well as radio call signs they used while away.
When viewed in person the CIC appears much darker than the panorama suggests, but a 2-3 second exposure brings out the details of the boards and equipment via reflection and built-in light sources, making for a more interesting scene.
A complete virtual tour of the ship will be available soon. For notification, send email to Hornet@cincpac.com.
