Located south of Paris, the Chateau de Fontainebleau is a huge Royal Palace, built from 1528 onwards around the keep of a small medieval chateau, the work being carried out in several stages lasting until the 18th century.

Our Panoramic View is taken from the west of this enormous, rambling building, with a direct view down on the impressive entrance staircase by J.A. du Cerceau, circa 1630.

The staircase gives access from a simple, pleasing, but formal, courtyard. On the horizon views of the rest of the building give some idea of it's labyrinth. To the east the extensive ornamental gardens contrast with the town of Fontainebleau in the west.
