The German word "Bildstock", "Bildstöckli" in Swiss German, stands for a little shrine on the side of a road. Often originated from a promise like: "If I come back healthy from war, I will ..." . Probably this tradition is even older then Christianity and mixes the Celtic practice of open air sanctuaries with Christian figures.

Many of these "bildstöcklis" are found at pilgrimage routes. One branch of the Road to Santiago crosses this valley coming from Einsiedeln.

With the Bildstöckli I wanted to show the tiny counterpart to all the fantastic, man built, powerful churches all over the world.

Equipment

Taken with a Canon G5, 7.19mm x wide convertor, equivalent to 27mm in portrait orientation, f.6.3 at 1/20 second. Mounted on a selfmade panohead. Stitched with PtGui/PanoTools/autopano/enblend converted with panocube pro.
