The subway station Candidplatz is on the Munich subway line U1 and was opened in November 1997.

The station - and the square above - is named after the artist and sculptor Pieter de Witte, called Pietro Candid, who created several artworks for churches in and around Munich in the 16th century. So the name "Candid" is not about candy or candid colors but more in terms of Pietro Candid Plaza.

The slightly bent platform runs a row of columns in the middle to support the pressure from the buildings and a bridge of the Munich express highway ("Mittlerer Ring") above.

The whole station - walls, columns and ceilings are painted in rainbow colors. The northern part begins in violet, continues to red, yellow and green and ends in dark blue at the southern end. The painting artists were R. Knoll and A. Wagner (their signatures are in the blue butterfly).

I overexposed the original photos to make the colors brighter and giv the station an airy atmosphere. The colums seem to disappear in the clouds. I also did some retouching to get rid of two ugly surveillance cameras.

There is another panorama of this subway station taken a bit further to the tracks and out of the line of columns. You can see it on our agency's website.

More about the Candidplatz station on the website Münchner U-Bahn (in German).

Another colorful panorama is my contribution "Lichtweg" for the 2006 transporation theme.
