All buildings have a history, a past, present, and future.

The California State Capital (04) however has a larger than normal depth of history. As you walk into the rotunda you're confronted with a large statue, "Columbus' Last Appeal to Queen Isabella" (03) commemorating Christopher Columbus' voyages and subsequent discovery of the New World in 1492 (01)(02). This discovery eventually led to the establishment of the state of California and construction of the building the statue is in. Much history has occurred in this building. A long line of Governors (11)(12), and years of "discussion" in the governing of the state in the legislative houses that reside in the Capital, the Assembly (07)(08) and the Senate (09)(10).

School children on field trips, and tourists from around the world come to gaze up at the rotunda and to visit the museum displays in various historical rooms (05)(06).

Remembering and learning of the past.
The running of the State of California in the present.
The creation of laws to govern the future.
